On 8 and 9 September, in the city of Lima, Peru, I had the opportunity to participate as a facilitator in the Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop on key competences.

This event was held within the framework of the activities of the Project for the Integral Strengthening of Children's Rights (PCV), which the International Bureau for Children's Rights (IBCR) implements in alliance with a partner organisation in Peru, the association COMETA (Compromiso desde la infancia y adolescencia), of which I have been a member since July of this year as a volunteer cooperant. The objective of PCV is to support partner organisations by developing organisational management tools and strengthening their technical capacities and skills, as well as optimising partner practices in the effective promotion of children's rights.

About COMETA

Compromiso desde la infancia y adolescencia (COMETA), is a civil association recognised as a non-governmental development organisation, with extensive experience in working with children and adolescents in situations of social risk and lack of protection, which is currently implementing the “Childhood without Bars” project in coordination with the International Catholic Child Bureau – BICE. Likewise, as part of its programmed activities, the Association also carries out training courses aimed at strengthening the skills of those working with this population.

The workshop I attended aimed to strengthen participants' communication skills in relation to self-esteem, emotional regulation and conflict resolution, also addressing the right attitudes to have in teaching and training methods.

The activity was aimed at partners and key actors representing institutions in favour of a positive integral development of children and adolescents in vulnerable situations. COMETA team members as well as representatives of institutions such as the National Programme of Centres for Minors - PRONACEJ of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, the Restorative Juvenile Justice Programme of the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Training Institute for Educators of Young People, Adolescents and Child Workers of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, the National Programme of Centres for Minors - PRONACEJ of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, the Restorative Juvenile Justice Programme of the Public Ministry, the Training Institute for Educators of Young People, Adolescents and Working Children of Latin America and the Caribbean - IFEJANT, Yo Soy Peru and World Vision Peru, are key actors in the child protection system in Peru who support adolescents and young people benefiting from some kind of socio-educational measure, in order to contribute to their resocialisation.

Training in key competences was carried out using technical and playful tools. A constructivist methodology was used to develop 5 training modules on different topics: 1) competences of a facilitator, 2) constructivist method, 3) training cycle, 4) techniques and 5) teaching methods.

As a volunteer consultant in organisational management, I am convinced that this type of training activity will contribute to strengthening the teaching and knowledge transmission practices of those who contribute to the integral development of children, adolescents and young people in situations of vulnerability and social risk. The constructivist method studies human thought, feelings and behaviour, divided into three dimensions: 1) cognitive (memory, thought), 2) affective (feelings) and 3) psychomotor (body movements).
