The IBCR raises awareness about the rights of children in detention centres in Honduras

The IBCR in Honduras has conducted, with the coordination of DINAF, four work sessions to raise awareness about the rights of children deprived of liberty. These presentations were held for detention centre personnel in the central region of the country, from September 25th to September 28th 2017.

More than 200 people have attended the work sessions. They were security guards, support staff, administrative employees as well as psychologists, social workers, legal advisers and medical personnel.

The participants were grateful for this learning opportunity. Many of them experienced this kind of learning experience for the first time since they were hired by the detention centre and this was a good way to strengthen their knowledge about children’s rights. They were also able to reflect on the challenges faced by children in detention centres in Honduras.
