On September 21, 2024, nearly 150 people gathered at Fabrik 8 in Montreal for the International Cooperation Brunch, an event co-organized by 11 Canadian cooperation organizations and funded by Global Affairs Canada. This special moment allowed participants to learn more about the Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP) and the opportunities for involvement in over 30 countries across Africa, as well as Central and South America.
Eleven organizations, including the International Bureau for Children’s Rights (hereinafter referred to as the Bureau), CECI, SUCO, CUSO, Carrefour International, OXFAM-Québec, Catalyse Plus+, Key Program, UPADI, Veterinarians Without Borders, and WUSC-EUMC, joined the event to present their respective programs and engage with candidates interested in voluntary cooperation. Information booths, partner videos, and testimonials, notably from Felipe and Imen, volunteers working on a mandate with the Bureau, clearly illustrated the impact of their work with our partners.
Inspiring Exchanges and Concrete Opportunities
This edition of the Brunch was marked by the participation of volunteers who shared their experiences and spoke about their work supporting our partners. Their stories captivated the participants, showing how their expertise is put to use for specific objectives, contributes to capacity building, and enables the host organizations to better uphold the rights of children at risk or victims of violence, as well as the rights of children in contact with the justice system.
Thanks to these exchanges, shared experiences, and the information provided, participants gained a better understanding of the expectations and needs of organizations hosting volunteers, and how their skills can contribute to achieving specific goals.
