The International Campaign to End Child Detention proposes different alternatives in order to put an end to child detention. What does the word alternatives means in that context? According to the campaign’s organisers, alternatives refers to laws, politics and practices that would allow people to live freely within a community while waiting for their immigration status to get resolved. In that respect, it would be possible, if not beneficial to governements to implement a policy that would prevent children to be detained because of their migrant status.
A interactive worldmap is available on the campaigner’s blog which regroups testimonies from people who have participated in the campaign so far. This map shows the accomplishments on child detention in many countries as well as how these countries are of particular interest when addressing the issue of child detention.
There is also a short clip promoting an online course on those alternatives.
