A call for projects to support local anti-trafficking initiatives in Honduras

In the context of our pluriannual project concerning trafficking in persons and children in Honduras, the IBCR has made a call for projects to financially support local initiatives on the subject. Several organisations submitted their proposals and 4 were selected, they now have to present a complete action plan for final validation.

Through this call for projects, the IBCR wishes to fund community actions that will contribute to the strengthening of prevention and protection mechanisms in the fight against human trafficking in Honduras. The targeted organisations are civil society organisations that support the population and communities in a situation of vulnerability facing gender violence and human trafficking.

The IBCR works on the premise that local anti-trafficking initiatives have a major impact on the population. We are convinced that it is by acting as close as possible to the population and by collaborating with our partners in the field that the most important and lasting changes are achieved.

The projects launched with the support of the Office through this call for projects will also help to encourage the participation of vulnerable communities (women, girls, ethnic minorities…) in decision-making and empower them to prevent and combat trafficking in human beings and children in an inclusive and gender-sensitive manner.

The different actions financed must enable:

  • More participation for the LGBTI, Afro-Honduran, indigenous people, Lenca-Maya Chortí, and women and girls in general,
  • Emphasis on decision-making at local level through the participation of civil society organisations in participation spaces
  • Strengthening the capacity of Honduran civil society to prevent and combat trafficking in human beings and children in an inclusive and gender-sensitive manner.

The call for projects was launched in July and allowed 9 organisations to submit project proposals.

An evaluation committee composed of one member of the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH), one person representing the Federation of Non-Governmental organisations for Development of Honduras (FOPRIDEH) and two members of the IBCR team, took the time to analyse each proposal and selected 4 projects which must now submit their action plan for a final decision.

The selected projects will benefit from a grant of up to 25,000 USD and will take place in 2021 over a period of 6 months.
