Diana Carvajal

Regional Manager - Latin America

Diana P. Carvajal is a lawyer with extensive experience and academic training in the field of human rights, international humanitarian law, and international criminal law.

She has served as volunteer legal advisor in several Latin American countries, where she worked on projects, implemented by the International Bureau for Children's Rights and Lawyers Without Borders Canada, aimed at protecting the rights of children, women, and other communities in situation of vulnerability. In this context, she has contributed to the representation of victims of human rights violations as well as to the development of litigation strategies and advocacy before the organs of the Inter-American human rights system and the International Criminal Court. Previously, she served as representative of the Ombudsman's, in some areas, heavily affected by violence and at high risk of public order disruption that were demilitarised for the purpose of peace talks. There, she was responsible for protecting and promoting human rights and respect for international humanitarian law to contribute to the resolution of the armed conflict. She has also worked as a legal officer in the Office of the Comptroller General of Colombia and as an invited lecturer of the Training, Technology and International Cooperation Department of the same organisation.

Constantly seeking to combine her professional and academic trajectory, she has carried out numerous researches on international justice, armed conflict, transnational litigation, the rights of indigenous peoples, and the rights of victims of serious human rights violations, particularly children, women, and indigenous peoples, among others. She has also provided training on issues related to human trafficking, strategic litigation, transitional and post-conflict justice, constitutional law, administrative law, and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

Recipient of a Juris Doctor from the Common Law programme of the Université de Sherbrooke and a Master's degree in International Law (U. Laval/U. de Louvain-la-Neuve), her postgraduate studies also include a specialisation in Economics (U. de Los Andes) and a Certificate in Transnational Law (U. de Genève). Member of the Quebec Bar, she is also licensed to practice law in Colombia. She speaks English, French and Spanish.

Diana joined the PRIDE team in August 2020.
