Capacity building for justice and social workers

Involved since 2009 in the Pan-African initiative for the training of security forces for the protection of children's rights, the Togolese delegation started the development of its own action plan at the regional workshop in Niamey in 2011. The implementation of this project to strengthen the child protection system in Togo began the following year - thanks to a collaboration between IBCR, WAO-Afrique and the Togolese government, with financial support from UNICEF and Save the Children. Following an initial stocktaking exercise in 2012 on the training of the police and gendarmerie on children's rights, and then on the actions and training needs of social workers and justice personnel within the child justice system in 2015, the IBCR began developing training packages for the security forces. In 2015, the Programme québécois de développement international of the Ministère des Relations of Québec provided assistance to support the fourth phase of the project, dedicated to social work and justice, alongside UNICEF Togo.
