Psychological Advisor

*Open to Canadian citizens and/or permanent residents of Canada only

Deployment periods: September 2022 - February 2023 - June 2023

Working language: French or Spanish (depending on the country of intervention)

Duration of the mandate: 10 months

 

SUMMARY OF THE OFFER

Under the responsibility of the regional manager, the development worker will work with the partner organisation to ensure the implementation of individual and organisational capacity building activities in psychosocial support within the framework of the volunteer cooperation programme. The volunteer counsellor will advise, assist and provide technical support to the partner organisation's team in their reflections and work in the field of psychosocial support.  The candidate will also contribute to the development of communication reports and articles related to the activities developed and implemented during his/her mandate.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Ensure that PRIDE implementation activities are carried out and that a trusting relationship is established with the partner organisation;
  • Support the partner in building individual and organisational capacity in psychosocial support;
  • Supporting the development of guides and tools for the psychological follow-up of children and adolescents who are hosted and/or accompanied by the partner organisation;
  • Participate in the development of the referral system to partners and/or specialised structures;
  • Develop and support training workshops on mental health and human development psychology;
  • Review and improve the training modules offered by the partner organisation with personal development tools for children;
  • Support the organisation in activities related to the Social Laboratory;
  • Participate in the initial mapping of actors and updating of the child protection system profile of the country of intervention;
  • Write progress reports on the activities implemented in collaboration with the partner organisation;
  • Write articles on the work done and the experience of the volunteer cooperation;

*The responsibilities are given as an example and may differ from the elaborated mandate that will be proposed to the candidate. All mandates are developed with the partners and every tasks are based on their needs.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Requirements

  • Permanent residence or Canadian citizenship;
  • University degree in psychology
  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years of significant work experience in clinical psychology functions with children
  • Knowledge of and interest in children's rights, with a focus on the child protection system and access to justice for minors;
  • Fluency in written and spoken French. The person must be able to write, edit, comment and correct texts in French and, for the mandates in Central and South America, a command of written and spoken Spanish
  • Ability to prepare and conduct training courses and provide recommendations;
  • Ability to analyse, organise and summarise
  • Expertise in new information technologies;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 2010 (especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
  • Cultural sensitivity and high adaptability;

Assets

  • Possessing a specialist degree or Master's degree;
  • Knowledge and interest in children's rights, with a focus on the child protection system and access to justice for minors;
  • Knowledge in Arabic or Malagasy (intermediate or advanced level)
  • Experience in working abroad;
  • Experience in voluntary cooperation;
  • Knowledge in gender equality principles;
  • Knowledge in results-based management and the human rights-based approach;
  • Knowledge in international development issues
  • Knowledge in security measures in international cooperation
