Communication Advisor

*Open to Canadian citizens and/or permanent residents of Canada only

Deployment periods: September 2022 - February 2023 - June 2023 

Working language: French or Spanish (depending on the country of intervention)

Term of office: 10 months 

 

SUMMARY OF THE OFFER

Under the responsibility of the PRIDE Regional Manager, the volunteer development worker will work with the partner organisation to ensure the implementation of individual and organisational capacity building activities within the framework of the volunteer cooperation programme. The consultant will be responsible of advising, assisting and providing technical support to the counterpart's team in their deliberations and work surrounding communication. The candidate will also contribute to the development of communication reports and articles related to the activities developed and implemented during his/her mandate.

Responsibilities* :

  • Ensure the implementation activities of the PRIDE programme and the establishment of trustworthy relationships with partner organisation;
  • Identify and analyse the partner organisation's internal and external communication tools and strategies;
  • Support the development of an external communication plan with the help of the communication and advocacy team members;
  • Support the development of a philanthropy and sponsorship strategies in close collaboration with the partnerships and communication team members;
  • Support the effective implementation of the communication plan with the help of the partner's communication team members and with the involvement of the expertise and programme managers;
  • Collaborate in the updating or development of internal and external communication tools;
  • Identify needs and organise training modules in communication and/or fundraising;
  • Supporting the communication team in capitalising on and disseminating innovative experiences and initiatives, particularly through social media;Provide technical support in the writing and layout of the annual activity report and improvement of both the website and some newsletters;
  • Support the organisation in activities related to the Social Laboratory;
  • Writing articles about the work done by the volunteer cooperation;
  • Create reports on the progress of different activities carried out in collaboration with the partner organisation and keeping in regular contact with the PRIDE regional manager.

*The responsibilities are given as an example and may differ from the elaborated mandate that will be proposed to the candidate. All mandates are developed with the partners and every tasks are based on their needs.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

General requirements

  • Permanent residence or Canadian citizenship;
  • Undergraduate degree in communications or other relevant field;
  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years of significant work experience in a communications office or equivalent position;
  • Fluency in written and spoken French. The candidate must be able to write, edit, comment and correct texts in French;
  • For assignments in Central and South America, a professional level of Spanish is required;
  • Ability to prepare and conduct training courses and provide recommendations;
  • Expertise in new information technologies;
  • Exceptional ability to work as part of a team while being autonomous in his/her work;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 2010 (especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
  • Cultural sensitivity and high adaptability;

Technical skills required (at least two)

  • Relevant experience in organisational communication and the development of communication plans and strategies;
  • Good knowledge of social media and ability to support the improvement of a website;
  • Experience in fundraising and developing philanthropy strategies.

Assets

  • Possessing a specialist degree or Master's degree;
  • Experience in working abroad;
  • Knowledge in international development issues
  • Knowledge in children's rights;
  • Knowledge in gender equality principles;
  • Knowledge in results-based management and the human rights-based approach;
  • Knowledge in Arabic or Malagasy (intermediate or advanced level)
  • Experience in voluntary cooperation;
  • Knowledge in security measures in international cooperation.
