On September 12th and 13th, a Forum on the Rights of the Child in Quebec was held by Hala Mreiwed*, a Child Rights Education Consultant and a PhD Candidate at the McGill Faculty of Education, which brought together many actors and experts on the subject alongside IBCR, including the Canadian Coalition for the Rights of Children, the Dr Julien Foundation, the Equitas International Centre for Human Rights Education, as well as many academics.
Canada will submit its next report to the United Nations on the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 2020. With this in mind, the objective of this meeting was to take stock of the current situation and to engage the concerned stakeholders in the transmission of information as closely as possible to the reality of children’s rights in Quebec.
Mr Guillaume Landry, Director General of the IBCR, was present at the workshops on Friday 13th, to discuss the issue of violence against children, as well as the subject of ethnocultural and religious minorities.
*With the support of the Canadian Coalition for the Rights of Children, the Centre for Research-Action on Race Relations (CRARR), Dr. Julien Foundation and several academics from McGill University’s School of Physical and Occupational Therapy and Faculty of Education.
