For a system adapted to each child in Quebec: the joint call to action of Quebec child protection organisations

16 Quebec civil society organisations working for the protection and well-being of children have joined together to call on the Special Commission on the Rights of the Child and Youth Protection, also known as the “Commission Laurent”, to review the operating principles and approaches of the child protection system in Quebec.

In a letter sent to the Commission in December 2019, the coalition recalls the need to include the child and their opinion in decision-making for a system adapted to their needs. It is a strong joint call to review the operating principles and approaches of Quebec’s child protection system.

The coalition will be able to present its arguments on Tuesday 25th February 2020 at 4:20 p.m. during a hearing in front of the Commission. This hearing will be open to the public and will be broadcast live on the commission’s website (see below).

This is part of the Commission’s ongoing reflection on Quebec’s child protection system following the death of a 7-year-old girl in Granby on April 2019 (see more here).
