Daredjane Assathiany is a lawyer, with diplomas in International Development and Latin-American Studies. She also holds a Master’s Degree in International Law, during which she focused on penal, migrant and refugee issues.

For the last 15 years, she has dedicated herself to ensuring proper accessibility to the justice system, while defending the vulnerable and the marginalised. While working for various NGO’s in Guatemala and Burundi, she acquired expertise in subjects such as impunity in the aftermath of an armed conflict, by intervening among victims, women and children. She has also gained valuable experience regarding education and the implementation of human rights, for migrants and victims of racial profiling, in rural areas, such as Burkina Faso and Quebec.

Before joining the IBCR in 2016 as a Quality Control and Documentation Officer, Daredjane worked in the Netherlands (2009-2014), as a lawyer at the International Criminal Court (ICC). She was part of the team having judged Germain Katanga and Mathieu Ngudjolo, both from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Daredjane later integrated the ICC’s Outreach Unit, where she facilitated the comprehension of legal developments by the population.

After a period of consultancy works, Daredjane chose to rejoin the IBCR as a Child Rights Outreach Coordinator, Child Justice Focal Point.
