The International Bureau for Children’s Rights (IBCR) has been involved, for many years, in the promotion and protection of the right’s of children affected by armed conflict.
The IBCR believes that children exposed to armed conflict need to be protected and helped by way of programming based in principles of children’s rights, further, IBCR seeks to empower children and youth to assume an active role in both the prevention and resolution of conflict.
With this in mind, the Bureau contributes to the creation of peace building initiatives for children and youth living in conflict ridden societies. This initiative is accomplished, both by the approval and help of local Governments, and by the creation and dissemination of informative materials.
As such, since September, 2007, the IBCR has assumed the role of coordinator for the Forum on Children Exposed to Armed Conflict, and also co-presides over the meetings of the Forum in conjunction with government representatives. In addition to this new role, the Bureau continues to initiate and collaborate on various different strategy meetings, research projects, and to assess previously implemented projects.
