In 2003, the IBCR published, in collaboration with the Children and Armed Conflict Unit from the University of Essex (UK), a guide on the rights of war-affected children that can be used for learning, monitoring and promoting the understanding of special needs of children affected by armed conflict. The guide includes materials on the latest conceptual developments in international human rights and humanitarian law, children and international tribunals/courts, international standards pertaining to children and war, refugee and internally displaced children, the physical and psychological state of war-affected children and issues of post-war rehabilitation. The manual also emphasizes the need to pay special attention to protecting the rights of girls affected by armed conflict. |
IBCR is continuing the dissemination of the electronic copy of this guide through its website as well as other specialized websites. The IBCR is also disseminating hard copies to interested organisations and individuals as well as through conferences and events. The IBCR thus hopes that this guide will facilitate research, monitoring and advocacy for rights of children affected by armed conflict.
