Results of the first part of the project

IBCR is happy to present the results from the first part of the project Strategic action plan for the protection of victims of child trafficking in Quebec.

The research paper entitled Strategic Action Plan for the Protection of Victims of Child Trafficking in Quebec-Part 1 was published in February 2007.

The summary of the report is also available.

This research paper constitutes a “first”. It is the result of work from a multidisciplinary team. A committee of experts was brought together in order to direct the research team during their interventions and periodically evaluate the work being carried out.

The report presents an amalgamated assessment of information related to child victims of trafficking in Quebec as well as stages of prevention, protection, reintegration, and prosecution of traffickers. Those involved with child trafficking in Quebec expressed their practices and experiences carried out at local, regional, and provincial levels, as well as their concerns and needs related to the subject.

The analysis of results makes it possible to outline the dissipation of knowledge on human trafficking and the absence of a common definition. As it was mentioned during the interviews, it would be of primary importance to educate the public and professionals through the use of an efficient information campaign on the trafficking phenomenon. For professionals that intervene with victims or children at risk, a need for training was raised.

Recommendations

in May 2007, IBCR released a series of Recommendations, and is now developing and putting in place, in collaboration with its partners, an action plan aiming at the fight against child trafficking in Quebec.
